During Métis Heritage Week, I was grateful for two meaningful opportunities to connect with community and celebrate Métis leadership and kinship.

In Moose Jaw, I had the pleasure of meeting with members of the New Southern Plains Métis Local #160 at City Hall. Their dedication and leadership are truly an example to all of us, and I was deeply touched to be welcomed as an honorary member of their local.

I was also honoured to spend time with Michif Elder Fluery. We shared a wonderful conversation about family history, our common Michif relatives, and the interconnected community we share. These conversations carry the teachings of our ancestors forward and strengthen the ties that continue to shape who we are today.
