The Usher of the Black Rod and Senator Boyer had the privilege of welcoming Lieutenant (Navy) Alex Metaxas-Mariatos to the Senate on November 7th 2018. Lieutenant Metaxas-Mariatos has served 12 years with the Canadian Armed Forces as a Naval Logistics Officer. He has completed two tours with HMCS OTTAWA, including deployments as part of WESTPLOY and OPERATION CARIBBE. In addition, he was also deployed to Iraq in 2016 as part of OPERATION IMPACT. I have the deepest respect and gratitude for our Canadian Armed Forces members and Veterans.
